Analysis of α-GPC in Supplements (NH2P-50 4E)

α-GPC (L-α-glyceryl phosphoryl choline) is a naturally occurring choline derivative. It is a precursor of acetylcholine that acts on parasympathetic nerves and have a potential for treating Alzheimer's disease by improving the brain function.
In this application, a commercial supplement containing α-GPC was analyzed by a polymer-based amino column, Asahipak NH2P-50 4E using its HILIC mode. It provided a good linear calibration curve in the concentration range 0.05 to 1 mg/L. The recovery of the α-GPC was almost 100 %, compared to the manufacturer’s claimed value.
