Because of its anti-inflammatory effects, allantoin is used in eye-drops and disinfectants. In this application, HILICpak VG-50 4E, a polymer-base amino column, was used to analyze allantoin under HILIC mode. A highly linear calibration curve was obtained in the concentration range 1 to 1,000 µg/mL. Allantoin was detected in a commercial disinfectant without the influence of other components. The recovery rate against the amount mentioned in the product’s ingredient table was 95 %. This demonstrated the method’s feasibility for the analysis of commercial products.
1. Measure 20 mg of a commercial disinfectant. Add 8 mL of H2O/CH3CN=1/1 and mix well. Measure up to 10 mL with H2O/CH3CN=1/1.
2. Filter using 0.45-μm filter and use the filtrate for injection.
