Streptomycin which is an aminoglycoside antibiotic, and its reduced form dihydrostreptomycin were analyzed using HILICpak VC-50 2D, a polymer-based HILIC mode column, with LC/MS detection. Generally, ODS columns are used for this type of analysis, but it takes time to stabilize the column due to its requirement of an ion pair reagent. The analysis using VC-50 2D does not require an ion pair reagent, allowing the antibiotics to be separated under cation exchange mode.
