Separation of Nitrite and Nitrate Ions (NH2P-50 4E)

Inorganic ions are generally monitored using an electrical conductivity detector. However, inorganic ions that have UV absorption, such as nitrite and nitrate ions, can also be detected using a UV detector. Thus, they can be analyzed without using an ion chromatography system nor an ion chromatography column. In this application, nitrite and nitrate ions were separated using a polymer-based amino column Asahipak NH2P-50 4E.
*Please note that this analysis requires a long column equilibration time. Before starting the first analysis, ensure that the column is equilibrated by passing the eluent for at least 3 hours. If reproducibility is not satisfactory, continue passing the eluent for a longer period.
