Simultaneous Analysis of Nitrous Acid and Ammonium Thiocyanate According to Japanese Testing Methods for Fertilizers (NH2P-50 4E)

Nitrous acid and ammonium thiocyanate have been known to cause germination failure in plants. In this application, a standard solution of nitrous acid and ammonium thiocyanate was analyzed using Asahipak NH2P-50 4E, a polymer-based amino column described in the Japanese regulation for "Testing Methods for Fertilizers (2016*)". It was confirmed that the calibration curve of nitrous acid and ammonium thiocyanate shows good linearity respectively in the range from 1 to 20 μg/mL.

Sample : 10 μg/mL each, 10 μL

Columns      : Shodex Asahipak NH2P-50G 4A (4.6 mm I.D. x 10 mm) 
               + NH2P-50 4E (4.6 mm I.D. x 250 mm)
Eluent       : Na2HPO4·12H2O (1.79 g) + NaH2PO4·2H2O (0.78 g)
               + NaClO4·H2O (14.04 g) in H2O (1000 mL)
Flow rate    : 1.0 mL/min
Detector     : UV (210 nm)
Column temp. : 40 °C
