HILICpak VC-50 2D was used to separate trivalent chrome (Cr3+) and hexavalent chrome (CrO42-). The gel made from polyvinyl alcohol base material modified with carboxyl functional group is packed in VC-50. In this analysis, trivalent chrome is retained mainly by ion-exchange effects while hexavalent chrome is mainly retained by hydrophobic interaction and they were well separated. The linearity of calibration curves for both ions were confirmed.
