The National Standards of China GB 5009.8 2023* “National Food Safety Standard - Determination of Fructose, Glucose, Sucrose, Maltose, and Lactose in Foods” Method I specifies the use of an amino column packed with amino silica gel (4.6 mm (I.D.) x 250 mm (length), particle size: 5 µm) or a column with equivalent performance. Asahipak NH2P-50 4E, a column packed with polyvinyl alcohol gel modified with amino groups, confirmed the requirements were met. In addition, the limit of detection (LOD) and limit of quantitation (LOQ) were evaluated using the standard solution. In contrast to the GB method, lactose eluted before maltose under the conditions used in this application.
System suitability requirements
Difference between two replicate measurements under repeatability conditions:
≤ 10% of the mean of the two measurements (Fructose, glucose, sucrose, maltose, and lactose)
Limit of detection (LOD) for each saccharide: 0.2 g/100 g
Limit of quantitation (LOQ) for each saccharide: 0.5 g/100 g
(Based on a sample preparation of 10 g diluted to a final volume of 100 mL)
