Simultaneous Analysis of Various Nitrogen Compounds According to Japanese Testing Methods for Fertilizers (ES-502C 7C)

In Japan, the Japanese Fertilizer Control Act regulates the upper limit for nitrogen compounds content in fertilizers. According to Japanese Testing Methods for Fertilizers (2016*), "High-performance liquid chromatography method" under "5.10 Biuret-type nitrogen", "6.1 Dicyandiamide-type nitrogen", "6.3 Urea-type nitrogen", "6.4 Guanidine-type nitrogen" and "8.5 Guanylurea-type nitrogen" should be carried out with a column filled with weakly acidic ion-exchange gel. The method mentions that this analysis is applicable to fertilizers, and Asahipak ES-502C 7C as a suitable column. In this application, five nitrogen compounds mentioned above were analyzed simultaneously using ES-502C 7C. The calibration curves for each nitrogen compound showed high linearity over the concentration range of 1 to 50 µg/mL.
