Analysis of α-Linolenic Acid in Edible Blended Oil (ODP-50 4D)

The α-linolenic acid is a functional ingredient in foods and is mainly found in edible blended oils. The α-linolenic acid is focused for its effects in reducing visceral fat, body weight, and BMI. Foods such as edible blended oil that contains high concentration of α-linolenic acid can be analyzed using a HPLC method. In this application, we analyzed α-linolenic acid in edible blended oil using Asahipak ODP-50 4D. The edible blended oil can be analyzed after a simple dilution. Using the method, α-linolenic acid was successfully detected and a linear calibration curve in the concentration range 10 to 1,000 mg/L was obtained.

(Sample Preparation)
1) Dilute a commercial edible blended oil 1+1 with THF without BHT.
2) Filter the mixture using a 0.45-µm membrane filter and use it as the injection sample.
