Analysis of Polydextrose According to Ingredient Standards for FOSHU (SH1011)

According to the Japanese Ingredient Standards for Foods for Specified Health Uses (FOSHU), the Quantitative Method for “Polydextrose” specifies the use of a column packed with polystyrene-divinylbenzene cation- and anion-exchange resins (stainless steel column, 7 - 9 mm I.D. and 15 - 30 cm Length) for the determination of glucose, sorbitol, and levoglucosan. The FOSHU calculates polydextrose content by subtracting the amounts of ash, glucose, sorbitol, and levoglucosan (1,6-anhydro-β-D-glucose) from the polydextrose sample. In this application, standard samples of glucose, sorbitol, and levoglucosan were analyzed using SUGAR SH1011, and calibration curves were prepared.
Note: The flow rate was adjusted so that the retention time of glucose was approximately 8.5 minutes.
