Analysis of Maltodextrin (2) (VG-25 4D)

Maltodextrin is a polysaccharide and can be obtained by hydrolysing starch. In this application, we used a new member of polymer-based amino column, HILICpak VG-25 4D, to analyze maltodextrins with Dextrose Equivalent (DE*) 13-17. Gradient elution is generally used to analyze oligosaccharides with a wide chain-length range. However, VG-25 4D can analyze oligosaccharides in a range of 1 to 15 saccharides using an isocratic elution.
*DE is an index used to indicate degree of starch hydrolysis. A DE value of 0 indicates the state of starch, and as starch hydrolysis progresses, the DE value increases and the molecular weight decreases.
