HILICpak VG-50 shows high recovery ratio of reducing sugars, such as mannose. Detection of reducing sugars in low concentration is possible with VG-50. The silica-based amino column shows low recovery ratio of reducing sugars due to the interaction of the primary amino group on packing material and the carbonyl group of reducing sugar. The formation of a Schiff base causes reducing sugars to be adsorbed to the packing material.
