Saccharides and Amino Acids (3) (KS-801)

Taurine, sulfur containing amino acid, was analyzed using SUGAR KS-801, a column for saccharides analysis. Generally, columns used for ligand exchange chromatography are used with water as the eluent, but adding cations as the counter ion enables the columns to separate samples under ion exchange modes well. NaOH aqueous solution was used as an eluent for SUGAR KS-801 with the counter ion as Na+, allowing ligand exchange and ion exchange to occur. Ligand exchange occurred between the counter ions of the packing material and the hydroxy groups of saccharides. Ion exchange occurred between the sulfo groups and the amino groups of taurine. For sensitive measurement, attention should be paid to the positions of vacant peak due to the cations in the eluent.
